Smileyboots: Barndance Band

A band for all occasions......

A Wedding Barndance

Smileyboots play the dances, interspersed with Barndance band songs to give you a breather without the silence which comes when the glasses are replenished. No dancing around the handbags, no age segregation; we'll mix the families and give them all a good time.

Our caller will put you all at ease and guide you through each dance.  He has the knack. His experience knows how to make the dances easy or difficult just so  you can have fun and the evening will fly by.

A mixture of English, Irish, Scottish and American dances will keep you on your toes and the music propels you along.  We know how to give your guests and, most importantly you, the great evening on your most important occasion.

A barndance is perfect wedding entertainment. It appeals to all ages, shapes and sizes. It gets the families to mix, talk and dance together. Not too loud or strenuous for the older members but gives those with more energy a chance to demonstrate their grace and elegance. And most importantly; it’s really good fun!

Pubs, Parties and Beer Festivals

Smileyboots also has a vocal side.  We are able to do a whole evening of foot-tapping songs that range from Irish and Scottish to American Bluegrass and Cajun.  We play to lift the spirits and the glasses of the audience and we do it all live. No backing tapes, no gimmicks and no sandals. Just good-time music played live and with feeling.

Ceilidh or Barndance?

Although historically different, these days the terms Ceilidh and Barndance are often used to mean the same thing: an event where traditional dances performed to a band playing traditional English, Irish and Scottish tunes.

A Ceilidh used to be an informal event where everyone contributed to the entertainment, chipping in with a song, a story, or a few tunes for the dancing.   A barndance was exactly what it said on the tin: a dance held in a large and available building. Traditionally held in a barn, these days it could be called a village hall dance or a hotel dance. The venue isn’t important. What is important is that it is a great way of getting all ages and clans to mix, have a good time together and to burn off a few calories from the wedding cake.

Based in Derby but covering the Midlands, we aim to please and give you and your guests the best possible time. A barndance is fun, a barndance is perfect entertainment for weddings and just about any party where you want to have fun. Go on, give us a call.
